Pompey Dons Open League Campaign with Convincing Bristol Victory
Portsmouth & Southsea Futsal Club made the perfect start to their league campaign on Sunday 27th September, securing an impressive 11-3 away victory over Bristol Reserves in their opening fixture of the season.
The Pompey Dons produced a dominant first-half performance, controlling possession, creating regular opportunities and showing a ruthless edge in front of goal. By the half-time whistle, Portsmouth & Southsea had established a commanding 6-0 advantage, putting themselves firmly in control of the contest.
Despite the comfortable scoreline, Bristol Reserves responded strongly after the interval. The hosts came out on the front foot, increasing their intensity and applying considerably more pressure through overloads and aggressive attacking play.
That second-half reaction tested the Pompey Dons defensively, with Bristol managing to find the net three times. However, Portsmouth & Southsea continued to create chances of their own and maintained their attacking threat throughout the half.
Geraint Melville led the scoring with an outstanding four-goal contribution, while Yahya Karimi added two.
There was also a goal for returning player Josemar Gomes, marking his comeback to the club in style. Huxley Marshall was also on the scoresheet, alongside Cristiano Vasconcelos, who marked his first appearance of the season with a goal.
Captain Aaron Tasker added another, while Sean Ikenye completed the scoring as the Pompey Dons reached double figures and secured an emphatic 11-3 victory.
The result provides a strong platform to build from as Portsmouth & Southsea begin another national league campaign. While the first-half display demonstrated the attacking quality within the squad, Bristol's second-half response also provided valuable challenges and areas to improve as the season progresses.
