Newham Sports End Pompey Dons’ Unbeaten Run with 9–3 Victory

Portsmouth & Southsea Futsal Club suffered their first defeat of the National Futsal League Tier 3.1 South season as fellow unbeaten side Newham Sports secured a 9–3 victory in a crucial top-of-the-table clash.

Both teams entered the fixture level on points and without a loss, adding extra significance to the encounter as the early promotion contenders met. Despite a competitive opening period, Newham edged the first half and went into the break with a 3–2 lead.

Portsmouth & Southsea’s goals came from Liam Brewer, Aaron Tasker, and Geraint Melville, but Newham proved clinical throughout the contest and extended their advantage in the second half to secure the result.

The match also saw late controversy involving Melville, who was shown a red card in the second half while off the court following an incident as a substitute.

The defeat ends the Pompey Dons’ unbeaten start but they remain firmly in the upper end of the table. Elsewhere in the division, Greenwich and London Galaxy played out a 5–5 draw, a result that affects the standings at the top.

Following the weekend’s results, Newham Sports now move into first place with 16 points, Portsmouth & Southsea sit second on 13 points, and London Galaxy occupy third with 10 points.

The Pompey Dons will now look to respond when they return to league action on Sunday 22nd March, when they host Maidenhead United B.
