Portsmouth Collapse Hands Control to Rivals as Tier 3.1 Hangs in the Balance
Portsmouth & Southsea FC endured a frustrating and costly night as they surrendered a 4–2 lead to fall 6–4 to Wessex B. After a strong start that saw them look in control and on course for a crucial win, defensive lapses and a shift in momentum allowed Wessex B to storm back with four unanswered goals, turning the tie on its head and leaving Portsmouth shell-shocked at the final whistle.
This result leaves Farnborough top of the table on 12 points, with Portsmouth and Wessex B both sitting on 9. All now hinges on Portsmouth’s final fixture against Farnborough on 7th December. Victory would see Portsmouth move to 12 points and, thanks to superior goal difference, finish top and secure qualification for Tier 3.1. However, a draw or defeat could see them slip to 3rd place, missing out on the higher tier and instead dropping into Tier 3.2. With everything on the line, Portsmouth must now summon a strong response in their season-defining showdown.
