Portsmouth & Southsea Futsal Club’s National Cup journey came to a dramatic end in the Quarter-Finals after a pulsating, high-quality contest against Sporting United, eventually losing on penalties following a 6–6 draw in normal time.
In a fiercely competitive encounter, Sporting United held a narrow 3–2 advantage at half-time, but Portsmouth responded superbly after the break. Showing resilience, belief and attacking intent, the Blues battled back to draw level at 5–5 before edging ahead, only for Sporting to force a late equaliser and take the match to penalties. The final whistle blew with the score locked at 6–6.
Goals for Portsmouth came from Huxley Marshall, Aaron Tasker, Kelvin Lipa, Geraint Melville, Joshua Decaine and Jeffrey Pinzon, each playing a vital role in a memorable team performance.
There was also a proud moment for the club’s pathway, with youth graduates Guido Tossi and Justin Gudzelak earning call-ups. Gudzelak capped his appearance by confidently converting his spot-kick in the shootout.
Portsmouth & Southsea now turn their focus back to league action as they travel to Maidenhead United B on Sunday 25th January.
